There was a subtle throb in her head as she tried to catch breath she didn't know she'd lost. A glance downward provided a clue: altitude. She was standing on clouds. Frosty vanilla clouds shimmered an eyeful of reply to the translucent skin of her bare feet. She started forward. A quick peek; a structure began to show through the mist.
As she drew near, her lips parted in awe. Before her was a gold-framed building with the look of a palace but the size of a single-story house. Excitement filled her stomach for a moment of solid ground's retreat. She raced through the entry and let the hardened skin of her toes embrace the thick glass floor with a twirl. Her eyes, however, were unprepared for the busy sight of a room of mirrors. The flash of her reflection from every angle knocked her flat on her back with a surprised laugh.
Getting up from her knees, she noticed gold lacy texture under the glass: a symbol, "Reflection". She stepped up to a mirror. Her clothes were tattered, but still flattering in pale colors. Her skin and eyes were shining and healthy, as if she had just been born from the ocean. Fixing her hair, she noticed words etched in the frame.
"Where is Zephyr?"
At her reflection's feet was a small brass horn. A glance to a mirror to her left showed a different object: an apple. She explored every mirror in the room, waiting for an object to call to her. Near the entrance was a mirror with a simple wooden music box. This was it. She drew a deep breath as she guided her reflection to collect the box. Suddenly, the room felt cold, unwelcoming, and she bolted through the gated door on the other side.
This entry was for the very first chapter after the prologue. The goal of this chapter was to express a vague setting and tone that could be easily expanded upon by other writers in any direction they chose. Mine was not the winning entry, thus it really won't match up with anything else. o3o
Also, remember there was a word limit. I'm only one word under. So I chose to put her in a place, send some feelings her way, and then quickly advance her progress by being drawn to an object in the room. If the word limit had been longer at the time, I'm sure I'd have included more plot details. (I didn't get a chance to think about Tokyo except that maybe somebody else would put my cloud world above the city?)

299 words. ... Was 300 exactly, but then I hyphenated "single-story". ahaha.
